Vibe

DB: Hey Vibe! How are you guys?

Vibe: We’re good thank you! It’s a new year so we’re in good spirits and still riding high from our support show at Hammersmith Apollo last week!

DB: For the readers who don’t know you already, can you tell us a little about yourself and what you do as a band?

Vibe: We are a DJ - Live collective consisting of a DJ, trumpet, saxophone, drums and a male and female vocalist. We mix and mash all of your fave 90’s and 00’s RnB anthems live and host nights and parties where we play all that good stuff. Imagine Destiny’s Child’s Say My Name vs Craig David’s Fill Me In or Notorious BIG’s Juicy mashed with Teedra Moses’ Just Wanna Be Your Girl all sung live with an amazing horn section arrangement. Yeah it goes off!

DB: What’s 2020 looking like for Vibe? Anything exciting lined up for the new year?

Vibe: We have another headline show at The Jazz Cafe TBA very soon. Our December show was our best one yet so we’re excited to take it up a notch. We’re also booked for some exciting private parties in Europe and London and seeing what comes our way!

DB: How did the band form? A mutual love for classic RnB, oul and Hip-Hop hits?

Vibe: It was a very organic process. We wanted to create a night that wasn’t a rave but wasn’t completely your typical music show where people could enjoy live music. We genuinely love RnB, Soul and Hip-Hop so we began curating a setlist of what the show might look like. We worked on it for months and months, sampling old chic Hollywood swinging vinyls to create our own ‘Bad Boy’ sample record. We began small and found ourselves selling out shows, so we’d move to a bigger venue and sell out again. We started to build a genuine fan base and have just organically got bigger and better and now we have over 10 sold out shows under our belt. We’re having just as much fun on stage as the audience. There’s a real vibe between us on and off stage. It has to mean something because so much time goes into curating the set before each show it’s all for the love of music.

DB: You guys obviously know a thing or two about old-school Hip Hop. Who’s your favourite OG Hip Hop Artist/group?

Vibe: Ooh it’s a very hard choice but it’s got to be Notorious BIG. Mainly based on his discography. Lyrical content, beats, hooks it was all there. That’s the music we like to vibe to.

DB: If you could collaborate with anyone who would it be?

Vibe: You know what, we’d kill a track with Diddy. He had the ability to select amazing samples from 70’s and 80’s soul records and make them current. That’s why that era of RnB is so good because it’s rooted in all of this great music. Diddy understood that and we share that passion, so it’d be a very, very vibey studio session!

DB: Can you tell us more about your show with 3 Shots Of Tequila?

Vibe: We just had the pleasure of opening up for 3 shots of tequila at Hammersmith Apollo to almost 3,500 people! To see what 3 shots, Tazer, Keith and Marvin have accomplished is so inspiring. It was a very special moment for us and our biggest audience yet. Surreal!

DB: Vibe clearly know how to turn up, what can we expect from your show at Dirty Bones?

Vibe: We’re going to be bringing nothing but good music, good vibes and good energy!! It’s going to be lit, don’t sleep on us!

DB: Have you guys ever been to Dirty Bones before? If so what’s your favourite dish and cocktail at dirty bones? If not, then what are you looking forward to trying?

Vibe: Yes, yes, yessss the crispy fried chicken is stupidly good! We’re keen to try the Mac Balls and espresso spiked BBQ sauce in the Beef Short Rib. Some of us are veggie so the Buffalo Aubergine looks like a killer choice. We’re only coming down for the food, the gig is an after thought haha.
